Review: Loveless

Loveless by Alice Oseman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Platonic friendships should be appreciated more

I said what I said. This book beautifully explores the less talked about asexuality spectrum. Plus we have a lot more queer characters. It delivers the message through these 18-19 y/o uni students and so is enjoyable. Everyone should read it, because spreading awareness about the fact that asexuality is very real, is important.
I liked Georgia as a character. In the beginning, her decisions may seem somewhat stupid when we as a third person are reading her point of view. But that's pretty natural when you are confused about yourself. As the story goes we see her progress and it's really heartfelt the way Alice Oseman has written it all. Accepting who you are can be very stress-inducing for a lot of people. Queer people don't just wake up one day and go like, Oh! I'm queer! This book is about the whole journey of coming to terms with who you are and what you want, and coming out to other people, which gets complicated when you are not attracted to any gender.

Okay, this might be somewhat(?) spoilery but, I also like how that house plant Roderick portrays the changing relationships of the Rooney in the different segments of the story.

And please can we bring more attention to how beautiful platonic relationships can be? I can't really recall having read many books that focus on strong friendships without a romantic relationship tied to the characters.

Loveless is a book with easy-flowing writing, that anyone can enjoy. I really liked it(if that wasn't already clear lol) and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in getting to know more about the LGBTQIA+ community(which should be everyone basically!)
