Review: Gallant

Gallant by V.E. Schwab
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was so close to giving this book 5 stars, but it was around the last 20 pages I was feeling somewhat underwhelmed? Maybe it's just me but it felt the story started out with so much potential to flourish and blow the reader's mind, but then towards the end, the author had to wrap it all up a little too quickly? I don't know what I was expecting the ending to be like, but I had a feeling it would move me. But that's just my opinion. I still think this book is so so good.

It's one of those books you could just curl up with on a rainy day and let it take you away. The poetic writing style captures your attention and makes you invested in the world of Gallant. The stubborn but very likeable Olivia is a great main character as you explore the nooks and hallways of Gallant and see her deep longing for her mother. The author has poured everything into her writing to make you feel what Olivia is feeling.

Overall this book had me totally hooked and got me out of a really long reading slump. And maybe not anytime soon but I'd love to come back to visit Gallant and explore with Olivia again.
